The impact of AIDS in this world is real and still causing heartbreaking outcomes. Due to cultural norms, economic weakness, and educational deficiencies, some countries are impacted more harshly than others by this devastating disease.
Zambia is one of these countries.
Of the 11 million people calling Zambia home, over 1 million of them have been diagnosed with AIDS. 17% of the population between the ages of 15 – 49 is infected. This has led to over 1.2 million children growing up in the country as orphans.
The situation in Zambia framed the foundational tenets of the Edgar and Meta Hoenecke Vulnerable Children’s Foundation (VCF).
Besides the temporal condition of these orphan’s lives, the spiritual health of those not aware of the free grace offered them through their Lord Jesus Christ is of greater concern. The Gospel has the power to change hearts for lives on earth with eternal blessings in the joys of Heaven.
The VCF believes that by educating children in the Truths of God’s Word along with the skills necessary for a productive life on earth, they will have hope for a future. Living an educated life in accordance with God’s will to His glory will greatly diminish the likelihood of contracting HIV. This is the ultimate goal of the VCF schools. As the years go by it is our prayer students of the school become well educated adult Christians ready to assume leadership roles in their homes, government, and society. A Christian education provides hope for not only this life, but the life to come.
